Active Learning, an evolving paradigm of teaching and learning, contributing significantly in almost all discipline and it is a pedagogy used to enable teaching and learning based on individual’s interactions in an environment exclusively driven by problem solving goals. As part of the teaching and learning process, specific problem is tailored or customized based on the flow of learning corpus and dependencies. Project based learning (PBL) approach is being researched and studied extensively in different universities in US, UK, Europe and other part of the world to identify the effective learning settings for different learning context. This approach requires special skills for designing problems based on the expected outcome as well as sequence flow of the learning contents. In this work, the universities as well as countries positioning of computer science and engineering education is indentified and critical success factors leading to effective engineering education is determined. In Bangladesh, the concept of PBL is not much researched nor studied in detail to identify the contextual requirements for the effective computer science education. Besides, the tremendous opportunities to transform the pool of young talented youth into potential human resource remain untapped. In this work, an attempt was made to explore PBL from the context of active learning for Computer Science and Engineering education to connect programming, data structure and algorithm courses. This study demonstrated good understanding on using PBL for the above mentioned courses and clearly highlighted the needs for active learning through context specific projects.
